Starting this Monday (17 Nov) , the XO Laptop will be available for purchase in 27 European Countries. The XO Laptop is the Green Laptop developed for use in the One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) program.

XO Laptop goes on sale this Monday
The One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) XO laptop was originally developed for school children, and was intented to cost around $100. But the final price was fixed at $188. OLPC has sold around 600,000 unit in US so far.
According to a Press Release Statement by OLPC, There are hundreds of thousands of children using the XO laptop every day, including over a quarter of all young students in Uruguay. Roughly twenty thousand students from Uruguay alone visit the XO Laptop wiki each week.
The XO laptops that are to be released in the European will run the latest release of Sugar on a Linux-based Fedora Core operating system, but will not dual-boot Windows and Linux.

After many complaints on the XO laptop running Linux in One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) program, OLPC have decided to introduce XO laptop running on Microsoft Windows XP
The Linux based – Sugar Operating System previously install on XO laptop for the One Laptop Per Child program will be replace by a special version of Microsoft Windows XP with customization for the XO laptop. The customization to the Windows XP that will running on XO laptop for the OLPC are necessary considering the hardware limitation of the XO laptop.
It was stated that PERU will be the first to get the version of the XO laptop running Windows XP. But there are talks that there will be a dual boot version for the XO laptop OLPC.
This is indeed a good news considering the complainer were worrying about the future of the students growing up with Linux in a Microsoft Windows dominated world.
