This 7-minute movie will first reveal a little bit of information that HP never told you. Then begins the real deal. The overclock is done in two steps. The first step increases the CPU by 100 MHz. Then the second step throws in an additional 50 MHz. This was done using only SpeedFan 4.34 – CPUFSB also works, but that’s not freeware. What I did were unexplained tricks that would raise the FSB and HT Link in CPU-Z. This video is a little slow, because (1) to ensure the viewer has enough time to see and read detail, and (2) to carefully show what to click and what to avoid.

This is indeed the limits of my notebook. If I select any other odd or unbearable CPU/PCI values in SpeedFan, everything will freeze. Since this is a notebook that has the technology to save power between AC and battery, there will be times when it can readjust the multiplier to as low as 4.0x without consent. Even if the “Always On” scheme was selected in Control Panel (it helps), anything can happen.

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has announced that they will be delivering processor in the small laptops niche beginning 2009

AMD was quoted saying the new processor for netbook will be design to fit in laptops with screen smaller than 10 inches, and the new AMD netbook processor will be targeted for user who want to equipped themselves with secondary laptop.

However, Randy Allen, senior vice president of the computing solutions group at AMD was revealing that the new AMD netbook processor will be more than enough to provide beyond basic web experience. This was made during the company’s financial analyst day in Sunnyvale, California.

Recently, AMD announced that they will not be competing in the Netbook market. So with this new processor announcement, AMD will be calling their segment as “mini notebook”,”small laptops” instead of netbook.

If everything went as planned, the new processor will include dual-core and support for DDR3 memory, and varying amounts of cache. The first release will be code name “conesus”.

With this new AMD processor for netbook, Intel Atom will be having a new competitor at hand.
