Part 1 of the Hardware section of my personal review of the Samsung NC10 netbook. I’ve had the unit for about a week and a half now and I’m very impressed with it so far, for reasons I describe in the video. I’ve tried to go into as much detail as possible, I noticed some other reviews skimmed over a few things which I considered to be important. Apologies if I ramble on a bit for that reason
The software video will be up soon, as soon as I find time to film it haha Link to part 2: www …

Sorry to write so many comments. Meant to add that with the resolution on the NC20 I could always hook it up to a monitor and keyboard for extended home-work/use. So the real issue is whether it can cope with the programs I am likely to use.

…which would probably stuggle with vista, 2.5-3 kg in about the same price range.
The NC20 seems like the much better bet, along as my concerns over using it extensively as a study tool can be allayed.
What do you think?
I have no interest in running more demanding programs– just the basics as mentioned in my first post.

Thanks for your response.
I need a new machine to take to lectures, to study and make notes in the library, and to write essays at home. I will therefore have it in my bag everyday, so light is pretty essential. My real worry is whether the 12″ NC20 is going to be suitable for extended word processing, or whether my hands/eyes are going to tire from using a keyboard/screen marginally smaller than your average notebook.
Limited by budget, the alternative would be a more powerful notebook

The VIA would be fine with that, my NC10 runs perfectly fine with Word, OneNote, Chrome and Skype open at the same time, so you’ll be alright :] Anything more than that might cause a bit of sluggishness, but for that sort of usage it’s fine. I’d recommend upgrading to 2GB of RAM as well, it does make a significant difference to response and boot times

i’m thinking about buying the nc20, just because typing would be easier. would it be fine for extended use of word and other office apps, as well as chrome/firefox and maybe skype at the same time or is the VIA on the nc20 going to struggle with that?
