My fan was quiet, until I updated the BIOS to current version (3114).

That’s good! But when you update the BIOS you will hear it.

The four screen thing is Linux. So if you want Windows XP on it, make sure you ask or check out the one you want to get to make sure it has it on it.

how long does 3 cell battery lasts?
because i dont like the way the 6 cell battery sticks out…
thanks

That’s correct. Netbooks do not have optical drives. You can purchase a USB-based optical drive if you need to load disc-based software onto it.

You do know that the battery that jutts out is the six cell, you have the crappy 3 cell..
The 6 cell gives you double the battery life.

Mine doesn’t have any fan noise either, nor does it have the large battery that sticks out. However, i think that thats probably because he’s reviewing a slightly older model. But, i cant be sure of that. I know that the current one that i have though has no fan noise, and a much smaller battery, and therefor is slightly different in that sense from the one reviewed

i don’t hear any fan noise on mine.

The Acer aspire one rules! I just bought one of these about two weeks ago, and i couldnt be more happier with it, in fact im using it right now! Thanks to the new atom processor within it, the aspire one has incredibly fast loading times. web pages load in the blink of an eye, and most you tube videos between 5 sec. and 4 minutes load completely within about 29 sec. this particular video loaded completely in about 2 minutes which is good time considering the vid is 9:44!

well i mean hyper threading or i am realy dual core idk
March 26th, 2009 at 11:22 pm
Yes… Older games will run though.

If you’re going to buy a netbook for gaming, I think you’re going to be disappointed. Neither the Acer Aspire One nor the Asus EEE have decent GPUs – they both are sucktastic Intel parts. All I can suggest is to buy it from a place that has a good return policy so you can return if it doesn’t work out.

I know its not a gaming laptop, but its cool

Hey… i really can’t decide WHICH Netbook to get… (Asus EEE and Acer Aspire one)On the one i get… im also going to be “gaming” a little. Games like, Counter strike (half-life 1 engine), Unreal tournament -99 (2004 if it runs), CoD, Star wars.. etc. I’ve looked them both up and it seems that the Acer Aspire One has a better graphiccard, but it only has a 3-cell battery.. In my opinion the EEE looks alot better… but that’s not really necessary when your going to play on it.

No, this does not have a dual-core Atom – no netbook on the market has that chip in it yet. The CPU in this notebook has hyper-threading, but that’s not the same as having two CPU cores.

It doesn’t make much sense to go from the Acer Aspire one you have to another netbook – maybe in a year when things have changed and netbooks can offer more…but other than a bigger hard drive, there’s not really anything that makes any other netbook on the market today better than what you have.

I’ve never seen a Slyvania netbook in person, so I’m afraid I can’t offer any opinion on it. Perhaps that’s a video of it on YouTube?
